The Power of Less Stimulation

(more than a dopamine detox)

Inside of each person there is what people consider the "Self" or the "Soul".

This is the intuition you feel.

This is the ability to have a gut feeling about something.

It's also what brings a person joy from one thing while someone else finds joy in a different activity.

It makes each of us unique.

This idea has been around for a long time.

This is the what Hindu's call the Atman. It is the self/soul that is eternal and everlasting and unique to each person.

But the western world thinks this is spiritual BS.

Due to science, data, and numbers people feel less in tune with themselves.

They limit themselves to labels.

Identify with ideologies (religion, diet, social group, etc)

And start to adopt the group beliefs instead of creating their own.

People seek answers.

They turn to books, other people, and anything besides themselves.

They feel that there not capable enough to solve the problem.

They feel they need to do something to find success or achievement.

So we go outside ourselves:

  • Drugs

  • Social media

  • Others advice

In reality, the answer is already deep within.

We are all born with a unique gift to share with the world.

But we get confused.

  • We need money

  • We need a job

  • We need relationships

  • We need more ______

We seek more of everything.

Without the patience to withstand if those things do not come right away.

This is only accelerated by advertising.

Advertising creates an illusion we need a product.

A great sin.

It creates greed.

It causes us to be selfish.

We try unethical ways to make money to buy products we never wanted until we saw commercials.

We watch the news and learn of a problem that we never knew about.

The only answer is to detach.

I see two forms of beneficial detachment:

  1. From technology

  2. From the wanting/craving behaviors

Detaching from the phone via:

  • Do not disturb

  • Reduced phone use

  • Boring breaks

This is where ideas can spark.

Constant phone use creates a problem when there is no problem if you are living in the present.

The second problem I find with phone use is the amount of people (myself included) who use it to pass time.

Too many do not post anything.

Most consume social media without ever posting their own ideas.

The fact this is normal is even stranger.

If you went to a social gathering and watched everyone else interact and communicate without saying a word, people would think you are weird.

But that is what people do when people view social media without posting.

To detach from wanting and craving seek gratitude.

  • Meditate

  • Pray

  • Journal

Do something that makes you worry less.

Do something that makes you think less about the future.

Less stimulation solves both of these.

In a world where we jump from driving, to scrolling, to eating, etc.

We need time to slow down.

Are the things we do each day what we want to be doing?

Or are we following the crowd?

Thanks for reading!

have a great wknd.
